It’s official: Warner Bros. has named Josh Goldstine its new president of worldwide marketing, the studio announced Thursday.
“Josh is an outstanding marketer, with an impressive track record of eventizing a broad range of movies to great success in both theaters and more recently on streaming platforms,” said Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich said in a statement.
His hire formalizes a more casual arrangement that saw Goldstine consulting on various movie marketing campaigns following the recent exits of worldwide marketing president Blair Rich and co-marketing president J.P. Richards.
Goldstine’s arrival at Warner Bros. marks a career comeback of sorts, and comes more than two years after he stepped down as Universal’s top marketing executive following an investigation into allegations of inappropriate conduct. He later won a large arbitration award in the ballpark of $20 million for being ousted.

In his new role on the Warner Bros. lot, Goldstine will lead the development and execution of all marketing campaigns for the studio’s global theatrical releases from Warner Bros Pictures, New Line Cinema, DC-Based Films and Warner Animation Group — as well as for HBO Max original features. Goldstine’s oversight includes Warner Bros. Pictures’ worldwide creative advertising, publicity, media, global digital, global promotions, worldwide research and multicultural groups.
Goldstine will work closely with the senior management team at the film studio to shape the overall marketing plan for the studio’s 2021 film slate and beyond.
WarnerMedia and film studio caused a firestorm in December when announcing it is sending its entire 2021 slate day and date to HBO Max and to cinemas due to the ongoing pandemic and widespread theater closures.
Goldstine, a veteran in film marketing circles, held the same title at Universal, where he worked on the campaigns for such hits as the revived Jurassic World and Fast & Furious franchises. Prior to his job at Universal, he did a long stint at Sony.
